The Escapist

A dirty hand slams the safety bar down into my waist pummelling wind through my gut up into my mouth. Loud dance music bellows into the cool night-time air and euphoric patterns of lights dart through the balmy sky leaving me nothing but shattered.

Even from up here, at the highest point, the hollow cage Iím sat in stops swinging and just for one moment I have escaped. Sudden silence dawns. Serenity planes in every direction. I stare out into the darkness and reach for the half bottle of vodka that is hidden in my pocket.

I unscrew the top and purse the cold glass against my lips. I close my eyes, take a hefty glug and try to forget whatís waiting for me after this one pure moment.
