Skittles
He had watched her lay her head on her desk, fingers laced through her scalp. The teacher asked her what was wrong. She said nothing. The teacher told her to go to the nurse’s office. She didn’t know where it was, would he mind taking her?
The nurse had her lay on the mattress in the corner while she made a call.
"Hey." The girl said. He looked at her. "Can you do something for me?"
He nodded.
In the empty hallway he found her locker. He looked over his shoulder, up and down the corridor. Voices murmured behind doors. He tried the combo she told him. The locker clicked and opened as quietly as he let it. He found the pocket in her back pack like she told him. The bottle was in there like she had said. "Skittles" was scrawled across the side in red marker.
He crept back to the nurse’s office. Through the window he saw them talking. He had to hide in the hallway. When he heard the door open and the nurse walk out, he slipped in.
"Thanks kid." The girl said, swallowing two blue pills without water. Her smile was one gritted through agony, until she took a deep breath and sighed.
She opened her eyes. "You’re not going to tell anyone, are you?"
He shook his head.
"Good."
