This Place

As I watched the sun fall over the distant horizon, the salty air filled my nose. As the cold water of the tide swooshed over my sandy toes, all of the billions of fun problems that had come prancing into my life recently seemed to disappear. I was no longer about to fail any of my classes, I wasn't going to lose my job, and my loving husband wasn't going to leave me. As a famous philosopher once said, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get." I definitely hadn't expected what was happening to me, but unlike the chocolates, these surprises were not happy ones. This beach was where I usually came when I needed to think when I was younger, but that was not the reason I was here today. As I took in the view, this place seemed to make me an offer that I couldn't refuse. Taking a last shaky breath in, I stepped forward into the cold, salty water that I loved so much. Now closing my eyes, I took another step forward, and then another, and I kept taking more steps until the water was above my head and the beach held up its end of the bargain and all my problems slipped away.
